Aisha Lemu Learning Initiative (ALLI) - Accelerated Skills Acquisition Programme(ASAP)

The Aisha Lemu Learning Initiative (ALLI), a flagship education and empowerment arm of the Islamic Education Trust (IET), implements the Accelerated Skills Acquisition Programme (ASAP) as a transformative intervention designed to equip vulnerable and underserved youth with relevant and practical skills for dignified livelihoods. Targeting Almajiris and out-of-school girls, ASAP delivers holistic training that combines vocational education with life skills, digital literacy, and character development.

The programme runs over a twelve-month cycle, divided into two integrated phases. Phase I delivers foundational literacy in English, Hausa, and Ajami, basic mathematics, ICT literacy including the use of Microsoft Office and internet research tools, as well as essential life skills such as personal hygiene, emotional intelligence, and leadership. Phase II involves vocational apprenticeship and internship placements in trades such as fashion design, catering, cosmetology, GSM repairs, aluminium works, barbing, plumbing, and more. It also includes entrepreneurship development sessions covering financial literacy, business planning, customer relations, and digital marketing.

In addition to technical training, ASAP incorporates modules on family management, premarital and marital counselling, and peacebuilding, ensuring a rounded moral and social orientation aligned with Islamic values. The programme is delivered in a nurturing environment with the support of skilled trainers, community mentors, and advisory committees. The impact of the programme is evident in the transformation of its beneficiaries into confident, employable, and entrepreneurial individuals.

To date, ASAP has successfully trained over 400 youth based in Minna, including Almajiris drawn from diverse states across Northern Nigeria. The programme contributes meaningfully to poverty reduction, gender equity, and social inclusion. It is aligned with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to quality education, decent work, reduced inequalities, and peacebuilding. Through strategic partnerships and local ownership, ALLI continues to scale the reach and impact of ASAP as a model for values-based, skills-focused youth development in Nigeria.
